The county, city and district councils in Oxfordshire have been working on their proposals for Local Government Reorganisation, which will result in one, two or three unitary councils being formed.
These are:
One Oxfordshire - one unitary authority using the existing Oxfordshire County Council boundary
Oxford Shires and Ridgeway - two unitary authorities for Oxfordshire and West Berkshire
Greater Oxford, Northern Oxfordshire and Ridgeway - three unitary authorities for Oxfordshire and West Berkshire
Proposals will be submitted to government by 28th November. After this, there will be a formal consultation period where views can be shared before a final decision is made. The government is expected to announce its decision by summer 2026.
