Basics of Data Protection and File Retention

This short online session is aimed at Clerks and Councillors who would like to know about why data protection matters for town and parish councils, and how they can comply with current legislation.

By the end of the session, attendee should:

• Understand their responsibilities under data protection law (UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018).

• Recognise what constitutes personal data and how it should be handled.

• Know how to manage records and apply retention schedules.

• Be able to identify common risks and handle data breaches appropriately.
