Parish Clerk/Responsible Finance Officer
Location: Home based with attendance of monthly Parish Council meetings at Long Wittenham Village Hall.
Hours: Part time - 28 hours per month including some evening work.
Salary: SCP13 - SCP23 (£15.06 - £17.85 per hour) depending on qualifications and experience.
About the Role
Long Wittenham Parish Council is seeking a proactive, organized, and community-minded individual to serve as Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer. This pivotal role supports the Council’s operations, ensures compliance with statutory duties, and helps deliver services that benefit our local community.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare agendas and take minutes for Parish Council meetings
· Advise councillors on legal and procedural matters
· Manage correspondence and communications
· Maintain accurate financial records and prepare budgets
· Act as the Council’s RFO, overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
· Liaise with residents, contractors, and external bodies
· Oversee the Council’s website and social media (if applicable)
· Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and procedural regulations
What We’re Looking For
· Excellent administrative and communication skills
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
· Familiarity with local government procedures (training can be provided)
· Commitment to public service and community engagement
Desirable Qualifications
· CiLCA (Certificate in Local Council Administration) or willingness to work towards it
· Previous experience in a similar role or public sector environment
