VACANCY FOR A PARISH CLERK AND RESPONSIBLE FINANCIAL OFFICER

Job Title: Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.

Vacancy from: March/April 2026

Hours: Currently 50-60 hours per month

Salary in accordance with NJC scale (NJC 18-23) (£16.35 -17.85 per hour) depending on qualifications and experience.

East Hendred Parish Council is seeking a highly motivated, proactive individual for the role of Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer (RFO). This is an exciting opportunity and would suit a community-minded individual who has the relevant experience to undertake an interesting and varied post within an active Parish Council. The role requires someone with the confidence and interpersonal skills to deal with a wide range of individuals from the local and wider communities. The ideal candidate will have good verbal and written communication skills, be computer literate and also have the ability to work on their own initiative. Strong financial management and organisational skills are required, together with a positive outlook.

The parish of East Hendred is a village which lies to the east of Wantage in the Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire. There are approximately 1,000 residents on the electoral roll, with a precept of £56,700 for 2026-27. There are currently 9 Parish Councillors, with no current vacancies. The parish council, in collaboration with a steering group of local people, is in the early stages of developing a Neighbourhood Plan.

Selection Criteria

Preference is likely to be given to those with previous Clerk experience and the CiLCA qualification - however consideration would be given to an otherwise suitable applicant who is deemed to have the potential to obtain the CiLCA qualification.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 26th March with a view to interviews being held in the last week of March. The full council meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month. The April meeting is scheduled to be on Thursday the 2nd of April.
