 ption Conservation Areas can be created where a local planning authority i
 dentifies an area of special architectural or historic interest\, which de
 serves careful management to protect that character. A listed building is 
 a structure of particular architectural and/or historic interest deserving
  of special protection. There are a number of conservation areas in Oxford
 shire and many listed buildings both of which require special attention wh
 en considering planning applications. This course will explain what a cons
 ervation area and listed building is and how they affect planning applicat
 ions. This is an interactive course and offers the opportunity to network 
 with Clerks and Councillors from Councils across Oxfordshire to share best
  practice and ideas. Key areas covered in this course include • What is 
 a listed building and how it is designated • What is a conservation area
  and how it is designated • How to find conservation areas and listed bu
 ildings • What the relevant planning policies\, law and regulations are 
 • The role of residents\, property owners and the local authority in con
 servation • What requires planning permission · How to consider a plann
 ing application for a listed building/in a conservation area • Trees in 
 a conservation area • What is a Heritage Statement and when it’s neede
 d Lance Wiggins Director\, Lion Planning Over 35 years’ professional pla
 nning experience\, of which 17 years was spent at local authorities in dev
 elopment control and enforcement. Lance has worked in a number of emerging
  areas of planning including affordable housing\, waste related developmen
 ts and energy efficiency\, together with planning policy work including St
 rategic Housing Land Availability Assessments and Local Development Docume
 nts as well as being heavily involved in neighbourhood planning since its 
 inception.
