Parish and town councils play a vital role in representing the interests of the communities they serve and improving the quality of life for local people. This day course will outline the roles and responsibilities of clerks and councillor so that they can work together effectively. It is aimed at new councillors and new clerks and will provide an introduction to law and procedure for local councils.

 Topics covered will include –

  • What does your council do and who is responsible?
  • What is the role of a councillor?
  • What is the role of the clerk?
  • What is the role of the Chairman?
  • The Council as a corporate body
  • The Council as an employer
  • What are the Council’s powers and duties and how can they be used?
  • The law relating to meetings

Registration and refreshment from 9am for a prompt start at 9.30am, finishing by 2.30pm. Lunch and delegate pack provided.
